Does a child's skin need care products?
Over the years I have seen many children in my practice with skin problems. My own children have eczema and it was a frustrating search to find the right skin care for them. That's why I share my findings below to help parents in a similar situation.
The child's skin
In principle, children do not need facializing. The child's skin does not yet produce much sebum, such as in puberty, and therefore does not need to be cleaned or cared for. Children only become dirty from mud, ice and outdoor play. This is easily washed with mild cleaning products with an average pH value.
Children with difficult skin can be recognized by stable cheeks, eczema, or dry, sensitive, red or irritated skin. They do benefit from extra care. Incidentally, different scientists say that skin problems are hereditary. That's right in my own situation and I have seen that with many of my customers.
Skin type
Not all children with difficult skin are the same. In my practice and also with my own children I have seen that children with a lighter skin type (I and II) often have more problems with sensitive skin than children with a darker skin type (III and IV). This does not apply to children with a very dark skin type (V or VI), whose skin problems are mainly caused by the Dutch climate.
Children with skin type I and II have light skin, light hair and light eyes. They have little pigment and therefore more likely to be red and sensitive skin. Children with skin type III or IV have a slightly pigmented skin, brown hair and brown eyes. Their skin is usually strong and skin problems can often be solved with the right care. Children with skin type v or vi (dark skin, dark hair and eyes), mainly suffer from dry and cold air in the Netherlands. If they are in warmer countries with a higher humidity, their skin will become better.
Treat
that skin problems are hereditary, does not mean that they are not treated. On the contrary. A large part of the skin problems can be remedied by stopping the use of 'wrong' products, that is, products with aggressive ingredients. Natural and soft ingredients and the right, mild, treatment can make the skin healthy, elastic and strong. The products of Aurora Dionis Dermacosmetics can be a nice starting point.
