SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS

Aurora Dionis not only uses natural ingredients, but its production process is also as sustainable as possible. Read below how Aurora Dionis contributes to a better and more sustainable world .

The ingredients:
Aurora Dionis Dermacosmetics products are handcrafted using only natural ingredients. See which ingredients we use here .

The packaging:
Glass seemed like the best ecologically responsible solution, but for several reasons, that wasn't the case. It turned out, for example, that the active ingredients could oxidize because the glass, combined with a pump system, wasn't 100% airtight. Oxidation, as a chemical process, affects the ingredients and can therefore have a negative impact on skin problems.

To ensure the effectiveness of its products, Aurora Dionis has opted for airtight packaging. This means that plastic is used. Aurora Dionis Dermacosmetics products do not contain preservatives. However, to ensure their shelf life, airtight packaging is essential. The aloe products do contain root extracts that act as preservatives, but these are not as aggressive and effective as conventional preservatives.

Protecting them from light and air is important for maintaining shelf life. So, pack them in a dark, airtight container. Plastic meets both requirements.

In order not to completely give up on our sustainable ambition, we developed the packaging in two parts.

The bottle containing the product is made of low-density polyethylene. This type of plastic is recommended for storing fresh produce.

The product bottle comes in a sturdy plastic sleeve bearing the Aurora Dionis Dermacosmetics logo. This sleeve ensures the product stays in the dark. It's reusable, as it can hold a new refill. This guarantees product quality and reduces waste. Read the full article about packaging here.

Why isn't our packaging made from recycled plastic? Unfortunately, a large portion of the collected plastic waste isn't processed into new plastic at all, but is incinerated. This is cheaper than sorting it further and processing it into new material. The plastic that is recycled is often less robust and unstable, partly because it's processed at such high temperatures that some of its "positive" properties are lost. Furthermore, all sorts of substances are added to these various types of plastic during their initial life cycle, making recycling more difficult.

Food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals are not yet permitted to be packaged in recycled plastic in the EU. This is a good thing, as it's important that packaging is stable and safe; it must not break or discolor. Furthermore, substances from the packaging itself should not be allowed to contaminate the product. Read the full article about recycled plastic here.

Production area:
Aurora has its own sterile and hygienic production facility where it produces small, cost-effective, artisanal products. The facility meets the latest and highest quality standards, and only professional equipment is used, such as:

- sterilizers to make and keep the air sterile,

- sterilizers to sterilize equipment, bottles, mixers, filling machines and cap closers.

- This allows her to enjoy the best of both worlds: the craftsmanship of small-scale production and the professionalism of a factory.
