What do you do when your skin lets you down day after day?
Is eczema, itching, and insecurity holding you back from living freely? Aurora Dionis knows what that's like. In fact, her own struggle with her skin led her to a mission that has defined her life ever since. Based on personal experience, she developed her skincare line, Aurora Dionis Dermacosmetics. A line that not only nourishes but also heals. "My work is an invitation to people to regain confidence in their bodies and, therefore, in themselves.
You've experienced firsthand what it's like to feel out of place. Can you share your story with us?
As a child, I had numerous skin problems. My skin felt like a prison: eczema, rashes, a constant battle. I was born in Italy, where I grew up with fragile skin and endless disappointments with doctors. They constantly gave me ointments and pills that only worked temporarily. There was little love in that approach. Everything revolved around treating the symptoms.
When I later moved to the Netherlands, I hoped for improvement, but even here my skin remained troubled. I bought expensive products hoping for a miracle, but nothing really helped.
Ultimately, I decided to become an esthetician so I could understand for myself what was truly going on with my skin. That journey led me further into dermatology, science, but also intuition. I searched the world for pure, effective ingredients and began experimenting with small formulas. When I noticed a visible improvement in my skin and that of my clients, I knew: this is my path. The beginning of my own product line was born.
What makes Aurora Dionis different from other brands for sensitive skin?
Everything stems from experience, not from marketing. I didn't start with the idea of building a brand. I wanted to understand my skin and the skin of others. Many brands formulate products based on standard lists, but we look at the true needs of the skin. Every ingredient has been carefully selected, tested, and perfected.
We work exclusively with natural, vegan ingredients, sourced from Europe whenever possible. Not because it's "in" but because I know what skin needs. No fragrances, no harsh preservatives. Only what works. Even our packaging is carefully designed: an innovative airless refill system that preserves the product's purity. Everything is perfect, from formula to bottle. Our customers can feel it.
Why Aurora Dionis doesn't choose recycled plastic in skincare and why did they make that choice?
It may sound contradictory, but it's all about safety and quality. Recycled plastic can contain microplastics, and you don't want those in skincare. Glass isn't airtight and therefore offers insufficient protection against oxygen, which negatively impacts the shelf life of sensitive ingredients. Our bottles protect against oxygen, light, and temperature fluctuations, which is crucial for the stability of the active ingredients. We use a sturdy casing with a refillable inner bottle. Durable and hygienic. This ensures that every product retains its potency, right down to the last drop.
What's your biggest dream for the brand? Where do you want to grow?
My dream is simple: I want to help more people. People who have felt insecure about their skin for years, people who give up because nothing works. I want to reach those people. Not to sell them anything, but to give them a new perspective. There is a way back to beautiful skin, but it takes time, love, and attention.
I want my brand to continue to represent integrity. No quick promises or superficial trends. Instead, depth, research, and products that truly make a difference. It's about healing, both at the cellular and soul levels.
There's a lot of gentleness and attention in your approach. How important is mindfulness in your philosophy?
Very important. Skincare is a ritual for me. A moment of coming home. Not just for your skin, but also for your mind. Your skin is a mirror of your inner world. When you're under stress, you see that. That's why I believe in slowing down, in mindful touch. In breathing, feeling, connecting.
Our products support that moment. Not as a "must-have" in your routine, but as an invitation to self-care. Just touching your face with love, with a scent that soothes you, with ingredients that truly nourish your skin. That's healing.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned on this journey?
May you learn to feel your truth. Don't be misled by pretty packaging or promising advertisements, but look at the ingredients. Understand what your skin truly needs and trust your own experience.
I've learned that skincare isn't a trick, but a process. Your skin changes every day. One day it needs rest, the next it needs protection. If you learn to listen, you can give it what it needs without overstimulating it. Less is often more.
How do you guide people in making the right choice?
Transparency is our core. We'll tell you if something isn't right for someone. We brainstorm with you, offer advice, and always schedule a follow-up checkup after a treatment. We look at the skin, but also at the person behind it. What's your rhythm? What do you eat? How do you sleep? It's all connected.
We build trust. Many of our clients have spent years searching, from dermatologists to drugstores. We guide them through a gentle yet targeted approach. Step by step, towards recovery. And we take our time, because real change doesn't happen overnight.
What message would you like to convey to our readers?
Your skin isn't your enemy. It demands attention, not control. Be gentle with yourself. Look at your reflection with love, even when your skin is a little unsettled. Your body knows what it's doing. Give it what it needs, inside and out.
Self-care isn't a luxury; it's essential. And if you treat your skin with love, you'll naturally live a softer life. You don't have to just survive. You're allowed to shine.
